Self-Assessment
Are you ready for a lifestyle boost? Do the self-test to find out.

Clearly, Malaysia has a lot to offer. With its breathtaking scenery, delicious cuisine, friendly people and low cost of living, it's easy to see why so many people choose to make this blessed country their temporary and even permanent home away from home.

But is Malaysia the right destination for you? Here are five questions to ask yourself to check if you're ready to boost your lifestyle and, above all, your joie de vivre.

Are you tired of it being congested everywhere you go?
Whether driving to work or just doing errands at the supermarket, does it seem you're always waiting in a queue? Have you had enough of needing to out-wit or out-wait countless others for a table at a kopitiam, or for a seat on the MRT? Having to compete for everyday resources wears you down and is stressful, especially in the property market, for instance, where you're vying with lots of rivals, who oftentimes, are more cash-rich to boot. Unfortunately, so-called social competition is on the increase pretty much worldwide. But there are countries where population size and available resources are still in balance. Malaysia is one such country.

Have you always wanted to live with a little more luxury?
One of the biggest advantages of living in Malaysia is its low cost of living. In fact, Malaysia's affordability is arguably one of the main factors that enable most Singaporeans with even an average income in Singapore to revel in an expat quality of life in Malaysia. Add the favorable currency exchange of the SGD to the Malaysia Ringgit, the low price of housing and transport, not to mention the various MM2H tax breaks, and it quickly becomes apparent that you can actually afford to really, as they say, live the life in Malaysia.

Does relocating overseas scare you a little but excite you more?
Moving to a new country is an adventure, sure, but if you're ready for something new and exciting, Malaysia might be just what you're looking for. With its rich culture and buzzing economy, there's always something to discover and explore. Plus, Malaysia's central location makes it a great base for travel to its neighboring countries in. Move to Malaysia and get Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand in the bargain. They're a mere stone's throw away! Not to mention the rest of Asia.

Is it time for something new?
Has life become a little ho-hum? Do you want to discover the real you? Clearly, living the expat lifestyle in Malaysia is a unique experience and if you're looking for a different way of life, living it up in the tropics might be the perfect fit for you. Better yet, since Malaysians are known for their kind demeanour and hospitality, you'll find it easy to make friends here, especially since English is very common.

Do you want to avoid living with regrets later on?
If you're open to embracing different cultures and a new way of life, Malaysia is a great place to be. Predominantly Muslim Malay, but with a mix of Chinese, Indian and indigenous cultures, there's always something interesting to do and see. Whether it's sampling the endless array of delicious dishes, exploring Malaysia's stunning outdoors, or participating in cultural festivals and events, you'll never run out of opportunities to expand your horizons.

So there you have it. If you nodded in agreement to three of the questions, it may well be time to try something new. But if you replied with a "Yes" at four or even all five of the questions, then embarking on a lifestyle upgrade is actually starting to make some pretty good sense.

Either way, Malaysia wishes you Selamat datang :)

Oh, one more thing. Don't forget that there's been a sizable expat population in Malaysia for the longest time, including plenty from Singapore of course. So you'll always have plenty of kindred spirits to connect with.

And possibly one the best things about relocating to Malaysia with MM2H is that you don't have to buy a home or even rent a home in Malaysia. In fact you don't even have to stay in Malaysia year-round. With the MM2H Visa, you can come and go as you please, so long as you meet MM2H's minimum stay period, which in most cases is just 30 days per year.
